Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Annotate and Edit as Word?
Annotate lets you draw, highlight and add text on top of the PDF visually — ideal for marking up documents. Edit as Word converts the PDF into editable text, letting you change, delete or rewrite any content and download it as a Word document.
Which mode should I use?
Use Annotate if you want to mark up the PDF without changing its underlying content. Use Edit as Word if you need to change the actual text, fix errors, or restructure the document.
Does Edit as Word work on scanned PDFs?
Text-based PDFs (exported from Word, Google Docs, etc.) work best. Scanned PDFs contain images of text and may produce limited results — run OCR first to make the text selectable.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
The Annotate mode processes everything in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Edit as Word sends your PDF to our secure conversion server for LibreOffice processing, then deletes it immediately after.
What format can I download the edited document in?
Annotate mode exports as a PDF with your annotations embedded. Edit as Word exports as a .docx file which you can open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice.
